Sarah is a 14 year old student who is exploring coding and computer programming to determine if she'd like to pursue a career in technology one day.
I can’t really say what’s that one thing that I’m most interested in. I think I’m not one of those people who can define themselves in one word. But I’m taking Robotics and Computer Programming courses so I guess I’m sort of interested in technology. I’m just good with that type of stuff. I don’t like the outdoors that much; I’m a very introverted person. I’m not sure yet who I want to be when I grow up. I took Computer Programming because I wanted to see if I like coding enough to consider it as a future job. I’ve done some coding before; last year I went to a different camp where I learned a little bit of coding. It seems really interesting and there are a lot of potential jobs in that field. I’m a left-minded person, meaning that I’m better at memorization than creativity. I met a college student who taught me coding who wanted to work for Google. So maybe one day I will also do that — work for Google. Who knows? I’m still very young.
I came to EXPLO because I want to get better at talking to people. EXPLO is a way to force myself to leave the usual comfort zone, get out there and do cool stuff. I’m really happy that I decided to come. I didn’t know anything about robotics before and I’ve already learned a lot with three days. For example, how to program a robot. By the end of EXPLO we will have built a robot that can get through an obstacle course. That’s pretty awesome.
