Meet Ainsley: Back-Flipping Future Civil Rights Lawyer

A conversation with Ainsley about the Painting Elective and Mock Trial Course, plans to become a lawyer, excitement for Explosé, and a hidden talent.

Victoria Lyons

From prosecuting defendants in a zoo conspiracy in Mock Trial to back-flipping out on The Lawn, Ainsley has been up to a lot these first few days of Session Two. Read on for a peek into Ainsley's first week at EXPLO.

What are you up to right now?

Right now, I'm in my Painting Elective, and I'm painting a tree. I started painting it yesterday, and I wanted to keep doing it. I've actually never painted before [taking this Elective], but I was interested in trying, and I've liked it — it's fun.

Which course have you been taking this week?

I'm in Mock Trial, and we've been preparing for a real mock trial, and that's tomorrow morning. It's really exciting. I did it in school last year, but I was never an attorney. Now I'm an attorney and I really like it. It was a lot of work, but it was fun. And it's a lot of group work, so you get to work together with a lot of people and get to know them. It's just very interesting — it's very practical, I think. And it helps a lot with things like public speaking, working together, and if you want to become a lawyer, it definitely helps with that!

Do you think you might be interested in becoming a lawyer someday?

I definitely want to be a lawyer. I think I'd want to go into civil rights and discrimination issues. I want to be a lawyer, and then have that lead me into being something else — either a judge or a politician.

Do you have any other highlights of your first few days that you'd like to share?

I've met a lot of cool people — probably my favorite part is all the people I've met!

Anything you're especially looking forward to in the days to come?

I'm excited to go into The Ville. I'm also excited to watch Explosé — that'll be fun. Maybe I'll be in it! I have no idea what I'd do, though. I'd have to figure something out. Maybe I'll do a group act.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I can do a backflip right here. Do you want me to?

After surveying the surroundings and taking all safety precautions, it was determined that Ainsley could demonstrate this exciting hidden talent to our blog readers. Enjoy!
