Allie and Vivian just met in Art Club, where they happened to sit at the same table together. Keep reading to find out more about their new friendship and time at EXPLO.
What are you up to right now?
Vivian: Right now, I’m in Art Club. I’ve been playing around with chalk and I wanted someone to draw. So I asked Allie, who was sitting across from me, if I could draw her as a reference. I’m working on that now. It’s fun!
Allie: I like the use of color that she used. It’s really cool!
I’m working on a Phoenix helmet for my R.A. out of cardboard. I’m thinking I’m going to try to make a second one for my other R.A. tomorrow or the next day. It would be cool if a lot of people could have them.
Tell me about your first day!
Allie: It's going great. I went to EXPLO at Wellesley two years ago, and I really enjoyed it. I wanted to go the next year, but then COVID happened...so I'm very excited to be here.
I really enjoyed my first course today. I’m in Competitive Debate this week, and we have a large variety of different topics that are challenging — which I enjoy. I like philosophy and ethics, so I'm happy I’m in this course.
Vivian: It's been fun. I went to Computer Programming today. We learned how to do 2D drawing using code. That was really cool— my favorite part of the day so far. This will be the fourth coding language I’ve learned. I really like creating stuff with the computer.
How are you settling in?
Allie: I was already excited about going to a new place to spend some time on my own. So, I’m liking it so far — the dorms, the newness of everything, the free time we get, my friends...I really like it.
Vivian: I like the dorms too. They’re cozy. No one lives in the room next to me — which is good and bad. Good because I get the bathroom all to myself, but bad because I want someone to play board games with.
Allie: I could play board games with you! I’m in the same hall! That would be so fun. Want to?
Vivian: Yeah!
