Focus Program student Shreya may only be 13, but she's got big plans. From bones and cars to basketball, lacrosse, and Gaga Ball, she's exploring all of her interests and figuring out her strengths (hint: she definitely has more than a few).
I actually heard about the Orthopedic + Sports Medicine Focus Program from something I got in the mail. I like medical stuff, so that's why I decided to do it. When I grow up, I want to do something in either the medical field or mechanics and engineering. I really like cars. I also play basketball, lacrosse, and soccer. I also like to scooter — I do some cool scooter tricks! I have a lot of interests.
I'm really tall for a 13-year-old, so a lot of people think I'm 15. I usually won't tell them my age until they ask, because you get treated differently. When they find out you're younger, they talk down to you. But that doesn't happen here; people are friendly and respectful no matter how old you are.
The best part of my day here at EXPLO is I-Time. I'm always playing Gaga Ball or talking to people on the quad. But I also love my classes. I get to learn about things that I want to learn about. I feel like I have so much freedom here. At school, you don't get things like I-Time to go and spend time alone or play a game. It really makes a difference in the whole experience.
Since I've been at EXPLO, I think I've become more open to talking to people. I didn't know anyone here when I arrived, but now I kind of know how to walk up to someone and start a conversation. It works out; I've made so many awesome friends!
