Alex participated in EXPLO's online program last year and is thrilled to be here for her official first year on an EXPLO campus! I happened to chat with Alex at the perfect time today, as she had her kalimba on hand, as seen pictured! Alex spoke about the fun day she's been having, her kalimba-playing, and her time at EXPLO so far. And if you're hoping for a clip of Alex playing the kalimba, you'll have to stay tuned for footage from Friday's Explosé!
What have you been up to today?
I've had a really fun day today. I had a really good cinnamon roll for breakfast this morning. They were so good. I had my Marketing + Advertising class after that. We learned about social media marketing campaigns, which were really interesting. We looked at some famous brands' Instagram accounts, like Apple and Starbucks, and we looked at the different advertising campaigns they've done.
What elective are you taking this week?
I'm in Interior Decorating. Yesterday, we did a mood board for a dream room. We got to flip through magazines and find little pieces of furniture and lights that we would want in our dream room. I had a dark green and brown living room idea. I really enjoyed making that.
Is there anything else you're looking forward to doing this week?
I'm doing Explosé this week! I'm playing my kalimba. Here, I can show you! It's a really fun instrument. You can only play simple melodies, but I'm going to play a fun song on it for Explosé.
Can you tell me more about how you became a kalimba player?
I don't know! I just found a YouTube video of someone playing kalimba and I thought it was such a pretty sound, so I asked for it for Christmas!
We're about halfway through the session at EXPLO — how would you sum up your experience here so far?
There are so many different types of kids here who love so many different types of things. I've made friends with all different kinds of people. There's so much variety in all the kids here, and they're all so accepting and fun to hang around with. The classes have also been great. I've been able to explore so many different career options, and also hobbies and interests. I think just learning about new things is my favorite part of every day.
