Compliments to the chef! Rachel, a hostess at EXPLO's newest restaurant, The Lanyard, shares the concept behind the restaurant's creation and its success.
Today, the students in the Restaurant Management course are opening up a restaurant called The Lanyard. We had been making food for about a week, decided which foods were our favorite to use for our restaurant opening, and we put them all together on a menu. It took a while to come up with the name, but we finally decided on The Lanyard. We decided on that name because it's a symbol of EXPLO. We all have to wear lanyards every day here, and the lanyard represents something that everyone in EXPLO can enjoy. We're serving a little taste of everything from around the world — salad, quesadillas, ravioli, falafel. We have some French, some Italian, some Mexican — it's all in there. In a way, it kind of represents the people that we have here at EXPLO. You get to meet people from everywhere when you come here, and we really wanted to represent that in our food. EXPLO is really diverse, and so is The Lanyard.
My Restaurant Management course has taught me so much about preparing under pressure and working with other people. You get to know people while you're cooking and you get to be really close friends with your chefs. I think after high school I want to work in a restaurant, and I think that this experience is really going to help me in my future.
