Maitê, nicknamed Tay, is a first-year student at EXPLO who loves to learn – she'll be taking the Experimental Engineering, Medical Careers, and Acting for the Stage + Screen courses this summer – and loves to be active, as evidenced by her choice of electives: Cardio Bootcamp, Cross Country, and Soccer Drills + Skills. Tay shared her thoughts on her EXPLO experience so far, as well as some of her interests and talents.
How have your first few days at EXPLO been? What's your favorite thing you've done here so far?
It's been really good so far. From the website, my expectations were really high, and it's been living up to my expectations. I really liked the a cappella group that performed yesterday – they played songs that I knew, so it was really fun to hear that! I also really like playing wall ball.
What are you passionate about?
I love playing soccer – having 10 other teammates that you get to bond with. I also really like running, especially with other people – you get to go outside, exercise, and have fun all at the same time. And I love reading – being taken to a whole new world.
What's something you would love to learn how to do?
I want to speak all the languages. I know Portuguese and Spanish fluently, and English, and I’m learning French at school. I started learning sign language, which I think is really cool because if I’m somewhere and someone can only communicate using sign language, and there’s nobody who knows sign language, I think it would be nice to be able to step up in that way. And I definitely want to learn Italian.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I can juggle! I learned how to juggle with my feet, originally, but when I'd say I knew how to juggle, everyone always thought I meant with my hands. So, over quarantine, I just decided to learn how to hand juggle, too!
