Meet Lea from Switzerland

Casey Kim

At 14, Lea has her sights set on a career in aesthetic medicine, and she’s already started working towards that goal with special projects back home. At EXPLO Ortho, she’s excited to be learning so much about the human body in such a welcoming environment.

I want to do something related to medicine and aesthetics — everything that is related to the face, maybe dermatological or cosmetic surgery. I have to get my degree in medicine and I need to know all parts of the medical field, so that’s why I'm here. I’ve learned tons of new stuff. I didn't know what the fibula or ACL was, or so much about bones and muscles.

Within the aesthetic medical field, I also want to develop products. At my school in Switzerland we had this competition where we had to design a couch from start to finish — put a price on it, find a color, choose material, decide how big it would be, everything — and we had to present it to the manager of this company called Conforma, which is like Ikea. I came up with the idea of a round sofa cut into four parts, like a pizza. And my group won the competition so our sofa is now in the shop and you can buy it. Even though it had nothing to do with medicine, this was still good training for product development and I learned a lot about business and management.

My brother is also here at EXPLO Startup, and his roommate is in EXPLO Ortho with me, so we are all friends. People here are super nice, nobody judges you or says anything bad, and with all the activities we don’t have time to get bored. It’s been only three days but everybody is friends with everybody and it looks like we’ve known each other for years and years.
