Sophia has quickly been gaining a reputation on campus as a friend to all, but the name Sophia may not ring a bell to those friends. Bite-y, on the other hand, may. Keep reading to find out why.
How did you get this nickname,
Bite-y?
Well — first off, I promise I didn’t bite anyone. In our beginning icebreaker challenge on arrival day, they asked us all to say our names, pronouns, and how we eat an Oreo. So, I said, “I just bite it.”
Later that day, my RA (residential advisor) asked me to remind them of my name, but I thought they were asking how I eat an Oreo. So I said, “I just bite it.” And they said, “Your name is just bite it?” And my friends shortened it to Bite-y. I think it's funny.
How do you like your course this week?
I’m in Photography this week, and I really like it. We’re learning how to photoshop, what f-stop, shutter speed, and ISO are — all that stuff. My favorite part is when we get to go to other classrooms and take photos of the other students. That’s what I like about photography — taking pictures of people and their expressions and actions when they’re just being in the moment. It’s cool.
How are you enjoying your time at EXPLO?
I love EXPLO. This is my third summer, and I love it every year. I’ve made so many friends. I think I have like ten, eleven, twelve…well, it’s a lot. I have a lot of friends.
I usually go to EXPLO Session One, so I was scared I wasn’t going to make any friends during Session Two. But, I feel very close to the friends I have. I feel like I could tell them anything!
I also really like how much freedom and independence we have. Even just doing laundry and bringing it back to my dorm. I feel so grown up doing it.
What keeps you coming back to EXPLO?
The vanilla pudding. It is SO good. SO good. The vanilla pudding is the reason I come back. But also, I have a lot of really close friends here from different places all around the world which is cool. I really love the friendships I’ve made here. And I love the vanilla pudding…
