Meet Sam from Pennsylvania

Sam likes to tell his friends that EXPLO is unlike anything else. It's where he can do the things he loves he loves, but also try as many new things as he can find. Why? Because EXPLO is a supportive community that encourages students to step out of their comfort zone.

An EXPLO at Wheaton alum, Sam has been ready for his first summer at Wellesley all year long. He's looking forward to making new friends, his gastronomy course, and going indoor skydiving.

I consider myself to be somewhere in between an introvert and an extrovert — I like to talk to people and make connections, but I also like to work by myself sometimes. That's what makes EXPLO so cool; I get to do both and have fun no matter what. Your instructors make sure you're comfortable, but also challenging yourself.

It's the kind of place where you can walk into a room and make friends right away. Every single person on my floor has been so nice to me, and I hardly even know them yet! I've only been here for a few hours, and I'm already so happy. I'm most excited to meet new people and to introduce them to the friends I already know from Wheaton.

I think about EXPLO all the time during the year. I like school, but it's not quite the same as EXPLO. I tell my friends at home that it's an experience you can't get anywhere else. I tell them that you can do just about anything at EXPLO — sports, math, science, art — and go on crazy cool field trips, too. And the environment is very supportive and full of kind people. You can find the most amazing people here who will be your friends even after the summer ends. You can do and try so many different things that you can't do at home. It opens you up to trying things you never knew you wanted to try.

This summer I want to make friends, of course, but also to push myself to try new things. I love doing my favorite things, like football and cooking, but I want to see if I can find even more things to love. And this is the place to do it.
