Meet Winston: Competitive Skier

Meet Winston — he's a student at the EXPLO grades 8-10 program, and he also loves to ski.

Savannah Norris

Meet Winston: he's in EXPLO's Aeronautical Engineering Course and Video Editing Elective. He thinks that he would like to do something in computer science when he grows up — he has been coding since he was eight years old! Read on to find out more about Winston.

Tell me something surprising about yourself.

I have been skiing since I was five, and I've been on a ski race team for two years. I really like learning ski techniques; and I get to do it with friends, which makes it even more fun.

So you like cold weather then?

Absolutely. I'm not a fan of this heatwave. The high was 97 degrees today, and like I said, I like cold weather. Thankfully it's getting closer to the evening, and there is shade now. EXPLO is also handing out water, and we have a lot of courses indoors in the AC.

What's the most enjoyable part about EXPLO for you?

I love how "on your own" it is. I have a lot of independence and time to hang out with other people. It's nice, because we aren't little kids anymore. We can walk from place to place and do lots of things — they trust us to do that.

What's a memory you've already made here at EXPLO?

Meeting the people sitting right next to me now. I have only known them for a few days, but we are already really great friends. They're crazy — but in a good way. They have a lot of different ideas and we have a lot of fun together.
