Meet Phoebe: Fifth-Year EXPLO Student + Mythology Fan

Phoebe — a fifth-year EXPLO student — spoke about what makes EXPLO special, current happenings in Acting for the Stage + Screen, and a favorite myth.

Phoebe is as well-versed an EXPLO student as you can come across, having been an EXPLO student for a whopping five summers! A Session One student back for more EXPLO magic in Session Two, Phoebe reflected on the Program, described a favorite EXPLO moment, and shared a hidden interest.

In your opinion, what makes EXPLO special? What's made you come back summer after summer?

All of the courses are super fun, and they always switch them up a bit every year. All of the staff members are also so fun to hang out with. And, of course, I make a lot of good friends here every year. I met both of my best friends here in different years.

Do you have a favorite memory — big or small — from any of your EXPLO summers?

Two years ago, we were in our living group, and for whatever reason, that year, we were all super obsessed with the song "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers. And we'd just stand there and sing out the window together. Actually, some variation of that story has happened every summer I've been at EXPLO!

What are you up to right now?

I'm in Acting for the Stage + Screen. We were given scenes, and we read the lines with each other. I don't know what my scene is from, but I play the teacher, and she's confronting her student about being early to class — it's a comedy bit.

Do you have any hidden talents or interests?

I'm really into Greek and Roman mythology and the classics — I take Latin in school, and it's so much fun.

What's your favorite Greek or Roman myth?

There's a lot of myths! Maybe the one with Pyramus and Thisbe — I think it's the inspiration for Romeo and Juliet. It's pretty nifty!
