Meet Kamala, Pippa, and Ananya: Magician's Assistants

A conversation with Kamala, Pippa, and Ananya about the magic show they were just a part of, as well as other highlights of their EXPLO experience.

Kamala, Pippa, and Ananya didn't know when they woke up this morning that, by the end of the day, they'd be able to add "Magician's Assistant" to their résumés. Read on to find out what they did in tonight's astounding evening event, as well as their reflections on their time at EXPLO.

Can you describe tonight's evening event and your part in it?

Pippa: We saw a magic show — he was a mentalist.

Kamala: Basically, we went up on stage and we were each given a die. And we had to choose a number from the die and write it down. And then, Henry was able to guess which number we'd written down.

Were there any other tricks in the show that you especially liked?

Pippa: He did this trick with these books where he'd let someone flip to a random page and choose a word, and then he'd guess the word, which was really cool. Then we got to speak with him about it afterward.

Ananya: The Wikipedia one was cool — the mentalist had a staff member choose a random Wikipedia article and look it up on his phone, and in that article, he chose a random word, and another student chose a random word, and he managed to guess both words. It was very impressive.

How have you been enjoying your EXPLO experiences?

Ananya: It's been an incredible experience. The courses have been very fun and engaging. All the activities have been really thoughtful. I've definitely gotten a lot out of it and made new friendships. I'm excited about the last week, but sad I'll be going home.

Pippa: Adding on to what Ananya said, the courses have been really, really great. Last week I did Fictional Criminal Psychology, which was awesome. And I think one of the best things has just been the people I met here — they're really amazing people, and I've made friends I'll keep for a long period of time, hopefully! It's bittersweet to be leaving soon.

Kamala: I've also had a really great time. I love the courses that I've taken and am taking. Also, all the activities that we've done have all been really cool and unique, including the show we just saw. I'm also sad to be going home, but I'm grateful for all of the cool things that've happened over the past two weeks and that'll happen during our last week.
