Rising 8th grader Renee dreams of inspiring others as an actress and singer. She’s already started her journey, acting in plays, participating in honor choir, and taking a musical theater course at EXPLO.
At school in India, I’ve been in many plays. I’ve been in a play called The Red Balloon. I’ve played a mom, a baker, a cycle-seller, and a spooky person in another play called A Night of Terror. Playing a mom was my favorite because I kind of like being the boss. And it’s fun being in a cast family. I’ve never been the main focus, but maybe one day I would like that. I got inspired by watching TV and people telling stories of real people — and I really like the idea that they were portraying the life of someone else and giving them the credit for doing that.
I mainly came to EXPLO so I could do theater programs like musical theater, and I’m excited to pursue my dreams and be independent. In the future, I want to be like Selena Gomez because she started off as an actress and then became a singer, and that’s what I want to do. She makes me so happy. Just like how Selena was inspiring to me, I want to be inspiring to other people as an actress and singer.
