Nicole is dedicating her second year at Explo at Wellesley to exploring subjects that don't have much to do with her known interests — and, in that way, are exactly what she's interested in.

I'm taking Public Speaking and Model UN. I don't want to be a politician, though. I really want to be a doctor. I took a lot of science and medical courses when I was here last year, which made me realize that being an anesthesiologist is what I want to do. I got to do stitches and dissect a pig and a frog, and that sparked the whole thing. But I still like my classes this year just as much.

I decided to take them to sort of open my spectrum of opportunities. At school, it's not like you get to choose your classes. You take geography and math and everything else. Here, not only do you get to choose to take geography or not, you also get to choose what type of geography, and what type of math. I don't feel locked into being a doctor, even though that's what I really want to do because I get to learn a bit about everything else. And I feel like if you know a little about everything, you're just a better person.
