Something about me that people wouldn’t know just by looking at me is that I’m not actually as intimidating as my size might make people believe. People look at me and they see this kid who’s 6’1 with two studs in his ears — and because of how I look, they have these perceptions about how I should behave. Some people automatically judge you just because you have a tattoo or a piercing or something that’s different than normal. But that’s not what they are, that’s just what they look like — you can’t judge a book by its cover. I feel like that goes for pretty much everything in life.

What you wear isn’t who you are. The color of your skin isn’t who you are. What’s inside you is who you are.

Explo is such an accepting place because we have activities that are made just for the purpose of anti-bullying. We have main events like Take a Stand, where kids share their own personal experiences as a victim and as a bully, and [where they can] reflect about what they might have done differently in that situation. We also had an event called Ten Tales, where people shared personal stories and told everyone these stories that open your eyes. When you see a person, you have no idea what they’ve been through just from looking at them. so it was really cool to find out things about people that you would never have known otherwise.
