With a visit from guest speaker and Yale Law School Professor James Forman, Jr., rising sophomore Izzy is more inspired than ever to pursue a legal career.

I’ve never not been interested in law. I can remember even when I was in third grade law being something on my mind. I think my mother being a paralegal has influenced me to some degree; even just going to work with her was something I always enjoyed. It’s really interesting to see a lawyer’s role in our society and the activism that happens. The guest speaker, James Forman, Jr., really enforced that.

He basically talked about his time being a lawyer and also a professor. I thought it was really inspiring that he basically started a school out of nothing. He became an activist for young kids who weren’t going to school, and from there through his activism got into the legal side of things.

I don’t really know what specific issues I want to focus on yet, but I feel like there’s a lot out there that needs to be justified and fought for. In Mock Trial right now, we're working on a case that’s basically a liability issue and I’m really into that. I’m just going to keep doing my research and stay open to new possibilities. What I got from Forman’s talk is that you should always have a purpose, and to never do things for no reason at all.
