Kind, funny, caring — these are the qualities Philip has found in his friends at EXPLO through the years. He prefers EXPLO to his old sleep away camp because he can still do outdoor activities, but has many more choices and learning opportunities.
My favorite thing about EXPLO is the people. They are the reason that I have come back for another summer. I like to think that I am someone who is concerned about others. Because of that I’ve gotten to get to know more people and become close with them. I had many good friends at Wheaton. They were all kind, funny, caring, and all those good qualities that you always want in a friend. Some of my friends are still here, but I am also really excited to meet new people. I have already met someone from a different country!
My instructors were all awesome last year and I am excited to meet new ones this year. I’m taking Computer Programming, 3D Computer Modeling, Fencing, and Introduction to Electronics. I think I might want to be a doctor, but I also like coding and computers as a hobby. I think it’s a really cool and useful skill to have. I tried taking coding classes at home, but I never really stuck to it. My two main hobbies at home are actually dancing and piano, but I don’t do them here, actually. I wanted to try something new this summer.
I used to go to a sleep away camp but when I came to EXPLO I realized I like it a lot more. I think EXPLO is more open and friendly. I like that the activities are more educational and there is always something cool to learn. I felt like the sleep away camp was all about the outdoors and being rugged, while EXPLO is really modern. You can still do activities like sailing or fencing, but you learn more when you come here.
