At just 16 years old, Megan is well on her way to becoming a Taekwondo third degree blackbelt. She’s taking courses in Model United Nations and Musical Theater — both interests that she’s developed through the self-confidence that Taekwondo has taught her.
This upcoming year at my school, I’m starting a women’s self-defense seminar. It’s specifically geared towards the transition into college and what it means to live on a college campus. It’ll be similar to a workshop here; I’ll teach foundational techniques for striking and self-defense, but we’ll also have opportunities for discussion.
My goal is for women to walk away from the experience not only knowing more about how to defend themselves, but also with a heightened sense of their own self-confidence.
Personally, I know that I wouldn’t be who I am today without Taekwondo in my life. It’s given me such confidence and respect for others. It’s also taught me a lot about time management and has contributed to a lot of other personality traits that define me.
It's defintely been a large factor in my draw to both Theater and Model United Nations. I'm hoping to explore these areas this summer, and gain a better understanding as to what a college transition will be like. I didn’t know anyone here coming into EXPLO, and it’s been really eye-opening and exciting to meet so many individuals from all over the world.
