Sixteen-year-old Carolina has a unique set of skills that she hopes will set her apart when applying to colleges in the U.S. At EXPLO, she's learning that living in a diverse community — and understanding different perspectives — will prepare her for university and for life.

Since I was around four, I’ve been doing dance.  But I stopped my ballet classes last year and decided to try my hand at ‘circus.’  You don’t hear many people say that, but I wanted to try something new. I do the trapeze as well as aerial silks dancing. I’m trying to do everything I can to make sure that I’m getting into the best college possible.

Being diverse is an interesting concept. Here at EXPLO, diversity of people takes on a whole different kind of meaning. I came here not knowing anyone, but I’ve had the opportunity to meet people from all around the world and who bring different cultures to the table.

When I think about what’s most important, I want to leave with an open-minded way of thinking — especially ethically and when considering respect for others. We learn how to interact with all kinds of different people, with different opinions and ways of life. My Business Management class has been fascinating for this reason because we have a lot of different opinions. We have to understand that and learn how to move forward together.
