Update on COVID-19

As you have likely heard, colleges and universities (and some schools) across the U.S. are about to go on their regular spring break — two weeks vacation in most instances — and many have asked their students not to return after break. Instead, the institutions will move to online learning in an effort to help contain the spread of COVID-19, and with the expectation that by summer they will be back to a regular schedule.  (Similarly, many K-12 schools are suspending school for two weeks with plans to return at the beginning of April.)

As I explained in my last update just four days ago, we are continuing to prepare for the summer. Thankfully, we are in a better position than many summer programs to handle medical issues during the summer as we have 24/7 nursing coverage in an EXPLO-dedicated health center on each campus. We are regularly monitoring reporting by the World Health Organization and Center for Disease Control.

On many fronts, aggressive actions are being taken in the United States and in other countries to flatten the curve on the spread of the disease. This means many companies are having people work from home, school is being moved to remote learning, and large gatherings are being cancelled.

Planning for the summer months is certainly challenging at the moment, but we continue to push ahead despite this period of uncertainty. Please know that our two highest priorities remain keeping our students and staff safe, and running the highest quality programs. In order to reduce the stress of planning for the summer, we have changed our refund policy and final payment dates so that families will not be penalized for putting in an application in the coming weeks.

Refund of Deposit and Final Payment Dates Extended

We encourage families to move ahead with their applications. If come May 1, 2020, an enrolled family feels the need to withdraw due to Coronavirus, we will grant a full refund. The family simply needs to contact us via e-mail between May 1 and May 7 to request a refund. Tuition and fee payments will be due May 21, 2020.

We will continue to do everything in our power to prepare for an extraordinary summer where our students can explore the world of people and ideas, and develop friendships and connections that will last a lifetime.
