Meet Barnettt: The Next Martin Scorsese

Barnett has big aspirations to become the next "Martin Scorsese" of action films. He's excited to have the freedom to finally explore all of his cinematographic ideas down on paper and out in the classroom at EXPLO.

I really want to be a director when I grow up. I think because making movies is a creative outlet for all the imagination inside my head. It’s good to get it out there and share it with other people.

I get my inspiration from watching trailers. I mostly look for the cinematography and storytelling and judge it based on that. I love when they use a shaky camera in action movies and make you feel like you are up close and personal with the main characters.

I don’t know what type of director style I will have, because I’ve never shot a film camera before. But I am taking the movie-editing course here and we’ll be using a digital camera and get to shoot things so that’s really cool. I’m excited to see where the class goes and what my final project will be for Off-Broadway Night.

I think that’s a big part of why I like EXPLO so much. I get to study more about films with other people who might be interested in it too. I also like that EXPLO really lets me have more freedom and more independence than when I was at home. I choose my classes, and I choose what I want to do during quad time and on my floor. I think that’s why I like it so much here. I have the freedom to write down all of the ideas I have in my head.

What’s my next idea? Well, I’m actually reading War and Peace right now. That book hasn’t been made into a new movie, so I’m just working through that idea for now. That’s probably going to take me a while. But I’m excited.
