The long-awaited student vs. staff kickball game proved suspenseful as ever, with the score going back and forth for the majority of the game. After a hard-fought battle, the staff are ultimately crowned champions this time around.
Students chill in The Blue Room — our Board Game Studio. This is one of the students' favorite rooms to enjoy some down time playing Twister, Chess, Risk, and more with friends.
It's Week 2 of Session Two, and students are participating in a new club — Duck, Duck, Bracelets. Student-founded, this club allows anyone who wants to play Duck, Duck, Goose, and craft friendship bracelets to do so. Each student chooses a duck name for themselves — Quackerton, Waddles, Sir Quacks-a-lot — and they go by that name for the remainder of the time in Clubs, Leagues, + Activities.
If you go up to any EXPLO student and ask them what their favorite place is on campus, there's a solid chance their answer will be the Gaga Pit. During Clubs, Leagues, + Activities, many students opt to sharpen their Gaga skills by playing some fun and intense rounds against other students and staff members.
You may have heard that the EXPLO community comes together each Friday for Explosé: a student performance showcase. What you may not know about Explosé, however, is just how much hard work and preparation goes into each and every song, dance, and demonstration. During Clubs, Leagues, + Activities, students begin planning and practicing for this Friday's Explosé, the final Explosé of the summer, which is bound to be the most amazing one yet!
In Pin Pals, students design their own pins to go on their lanyards. The designs range from emoji faces to flags to decorative patterns — whatever best helps each student express themselves.
Part of the EXPLO experience is having the autonomy to make different choices and pave a new path. What does that look like? This session, students created a new club — Latin Dance Club — where they could Salsa, laugh, and spin the day away.
In Reading + Writing Club, students enjoy a cozy afternoon curled up on the couches indoors. Quiet smiles and furrowed eyebrows fill the silence of the room as eyes skim pages quickly.
The EXPLO Update — a news videocast created by and for students — is a must-see each morning, complete with a number of announcements, a weather report, helpful tips for the day ahead, and creative jokes. During Clubs, Leagues, + Activities, students storyboard the different segments, scoping out good filming locations and putting in their own original twists, like today when students ended each clip with an enthusiastic thumbs up!
Note from the editor: these lovely students were part of the Community Immersion Club during Session 1 and kindly submitted this blog to share their experience. Enjoy!
