Students in Competitive Debate identify skills and techniques used in effective argumentation from body language and vocal projection to accurate research and articulation. And even though it's conflict-oriented, students laugh, smile, and deepen their friendships with every disagreement.
The weekend means a lot of things at EXPLO: some especially awesome events take place, unique activities are offered, and students get some extra free time to hang out together on campus. And, of course, we have our trips to The Ville! The final Ville trip of the summer consisted of stops at the many stores that Bronxville has to offer from Topps Bakery, Cookies N' Cream, and Häagen-Dazs to the ever-popular CVS and Starbucks.
For the students who opted to join in on the Lawn-a-Palooza weekend activity, their morning consisted of an epic game of volleyball, fun music to jam out to, and relaxing spots to read books or play card games with friends.
Students head to the theatre for a Family Feud game show contest. What's the best dining hall treat? Who actually works in the OSL (Office of Student Life)? Which house will win the house cup? These were just some of the questions for students to answer.
The weekend is for taking it easy. Students sip Capri Sun juice boxes and participate in a guided painting session in the Art Room. They relax as the instructor demonstrates step by step how to paint a sunset mountain landscape.
It's every player for themselves out on the softball field for Colorfest, a merciless battle with dye-soaked sponges. Red, yellow, blue, and green dye fly every which way until the white t-shirts students started out with are covered in color.
For one night each session, The Lawn becomes EXPLOstock — an evening event like no other. The joy on campus was palpable all evening as students played games, did crafts, painted their faces, and sang and danced their hearts out to some open mic performances by their peers.
Students chill in The Blue Room — our Board Game Studio. This is one of the students' favorite rooms to enjoy some down time playing Twister, Chess, Risk, and more with friends.
Explosé is an opportunity for students to showcase their talents — and that they did. Week Two's event was complete with ballads, rap battles, ballet, salsa dancing, and lots of cheering and support from the audience.
A levitating chair. A barbershop with an attached restaurant. An off-road skateboard. A fuzzy wall. These are just some of the creative products — dreamt up by Entrepreneurial Foundations students this week — that were backed by four "investors" (EXPLO staff members) after students gave powerful pitches in their final class meeting.
