West Coast native Caroline reflects on the similarities between two things she's passionate about: journalism and EXPLO!
I found EXPLO through my mom, who actually attended Wellesley College; she was class of 1990. I'm originally from California and go to school in California. It's why I chose to come to EXPLO, to have that East Coast experience. I'm so excited to visit Boston and see the city for the first time!
I ended up working with the communications team because of my background in journalism and media. I'm a huge supporter of exposing the truth in journalism, and it's more important now than ever before. With terms like "fake news" being thrown around, it's calling into question the morality and ethics within journalism as a field. It falls on the media to remain unbiased. What's most important now is publishing lots of different opinions, publishing the truth, and getting it all out there. It's okay to have different perspectives; it's actually something that EXPLO in particular emphasizes! Things like forming different kinds of ideas and creating a place where we're welcome to share them are super important. They're really the core values of journalism, and in a way, EXPLO as a place and program.
