Ever tried cricket? Cross-fit training? After three busy weeks at EXPLO, sixth grader Oscar is confident he took advantage of every opportunity to try something new — and there wasn't a single thing he didn't like!

Being at EXPLO has really opened me up to a lot of things I’ve never done before. I live in a city and there are a lot of things you can’t try there — you can’t canoe or kayak, for example. There are also a lot of cool activities that I just never thought about doing before — like cricket or CrossFit training. Why not give these things a try at EXPLO? I keep my atlases from every day so I can see all the new things I’ve tried. I don’t think I did a single thing at EXPLO that I didn’t like.

Looking back on EXPLO, it’s a place where every new thing you try has a reward to it. When you look at the risk versus reward ratio, everything here is more rewarding because, unlike at school, there are no consequences to taking a risk. The rewards of trying new things are gaining new hobbies and interests and feeling like you accomplished something. If you stick with the same thing all the time then you’re never going to learn.

The very first day at EXPLO I did not expect to go on stage with the Airborne Comedians. After that I performed in the Talent Show, then I was the student announcer. All these things I never imagined I would do. I feel like next year, as a returner, I can be that person who opens up the first year students to new opportunities and they will be able to do everything I did in just one summer.
