EXPLO Welcomes Adam Newman, Jon Chang to Board of Trustees

NORWOOD, MASS., Feb. 7, 2019EXPLO is pleased to announce the election of two new Trustees, Adam Newman and Jon Chang, each unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees. Newman is the founding partner of Tyton Partners, and Chang is an expert in digital, growth, and product marketing, currently at IBM Watson.

“As we consider the future of EXPLO and navigate the exciting opportunities ahead of us, I am simply thrilled that Adam and Jon will be part of the group helping us manage change and advising us on how we can be the most impactful. Both have already been trusted advisors, and I can’t think of two people I would rather have at the table,” says Moira Kelly, president and executive director.

When asked what drew him to the EXPLO board, Newman explained, “EXPLO’s approach to creating vibrant learning environments is a gift that more teachers and students deserve. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support this passionate leadership team as they explore ways to bring their vision and practice to a broader audience.”

Tyton Partners is a dynamic advisory firm that serves clients across the education, information and media markets within the global knowledge sector. Prior to founding Tyton, Newman was a director at Berkery Noyes, a mergers and acquisitions firm serving the information industry. While there, he originated the firm’s strategic advisory practice for education companies and investors, and launched the Venture Capital in Education Summit — an annual event convening the most dynamic and innovative early-stage companies and entrepreneurs across the preK–12, postsecondary, corporate training, and consumer markets.

Previously, Newman served as managing vice president at Eduventures, a market research and consulting firm supporting the education industry. He began his professional career as a K–12 educator and athletic coach at schools in Boston and New Orleans. He holds an AB in English from Duke University.

Jon Chang is a 2019 Forbes 30 Under 30 list maker, an expert digital, growth, and product marketer, and a recognized global educator and keynote speaker. In addition to his role as a product marketer at IBM Watson, Chang is an New York University Adjunct Faculty of Social Media and Web Analytics. He teaches marketing at General Assembly, was the director of digital marketing at Kickstarter, and previously held positions at Stack Overflow and MakerBot. Chang launched his teaching career at EXPLO and has since taught thousands of students around the globe.

“For me, joining the board is a natural next step, after already having been an EXPLO instructor and advisor,” Chang says. “ I'm excited to join the EXPLO board because of its mission and ability to create a global community of curious, engaged, and innovative students and educators. Ever since my older sister attended EXPLO decades ago, I've seen its programs spark genuine, lifelong interests.”
