Dean of Students Welcomes Parents to Explo at Wellesley

Now in her sixth season as an Explo faculty member, Stacey Lee, Dean of Students at Explo at Wellesley, welcomed parents on opening day and provided an informative and engaging talk about what this summer has in store for their children.

Stacey Lee, Dean of Students at Explo at Wellesley, was filled with warmth, good humor, and very valuable information as she welcomed parents to the Wellesley campus on opening day. Stacey told the audience that she hoped their sons and daughters would experience three things at Explo: independence, confidence, and fun.

She also highlighted that a summer at Explo is an opportunity to do things that you can't do during the regular school year, and that Explo at Wellesley is a place where kids can feel safe to take appropriate risks, and to push outside their comfort zones.

In describing the role of the Dean of Students' Office, Stacey reinforced the notion that Explo is operating in partnership with parents; her role is to help kids feel comfortable (and is not just about discipline!). Stacey spoke with candor, understanding, and wisdom about the Explo experience, and offered both reassurance and excitement on a momentous day.

This is a time for kids to do things that they can't do during the regular school year...we want them to experience three things: independence, confidence, and fun!
A graduate of Bowdoin College with a degree in sociology Stacey began her career as a Director for SCORE! Educational Centers, building specialized curriculum plans to provide enrichment and basic skills support for students. In 2004 she returned to Bowdoin College as Director of First Year Programs where she supported the First Year class and several identity-based student groups. She spent several years as the Associate Dean for Students at St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire, where she coordinates student clubs and counsels residential students. After her work with Explo this summer, Stacey will start in a new role as the Associate Dean of Students at St. Mark’s School in Southborough, Massachusetts, where Explo at St. Mark's is held during the summer.
