Explo at Yale living groups take their version of family portraits together. Silly poses and odd outfits are out in full creative glory as each group does its best to stand out from the rest.
Meet Explo at Yale's current Scholar-in-Residence, Captain Thomas Sass. Captain Sass comes to us as a decorated officer, having commanded a SEAL team, aided in NATO negotiations, chaired the Joint Military Operations Department, and taught at the Naval War College. After working with students in the Crisis Management workshop, Captain Sass speaks with some very interested students about his time in the military, what it means to serve, and his reflections on a very successful career.
What's that you say? Those bubbles seem larger than normal? Is that an above-average sized origami swan? Have all Explo at Yale students shrunk down to be smaller than a cornhole set? No! It's just giant day! [This post originally appeared on August 1, 2015.]
Aside from the fantastic programming we have going on at Explo at Yale, we also have the good fortune of being in New Haven! From the local ice cream shop, the ever important coffee run, some quick clothing purchases, and the crêpe cart (a definite favorite) there's never a dull moment!
Today's Explo at Yale Community Meeting is all about courage. Courage to lead a Color War team to victory, courage to submit an original piece of fiction to Orange is the New Blue. Even courage to perform in the talent show! With musical performances, messages from the Heads of Explo at Yale, and information about upcoming events, this community meeting is packed with great stuff.
Overheard as students wait to speak with Scholar-in-Residence Dovie Thomason after her performance, Explo at Yale
As a treat this evening, Explo at Yale students are swept up by storyteller and Scholar-in-Residence Dovie Thomason. Having graduated with a degree in Native Studies well before it became a formal option, Dovie has become a preeminent storyteller in the Native American tradition. Weaving together stories about her time at NASA, her adventures in her childhood subdivision, and the ancient stories she grew up with, Dovie takes students on a journey they won't soon forget.
With a day of serving the New Haven Community behind them, our Explo at Yale students relax with a picnic on the quad!
After a powerful day of community service, our Explo at Yale students are feeling closer than ever! Close enough, in fact, to take some priceless family photos before dinner on the quad!
