Tenth-grader Tancrede wants to change the world through industrial design. He loves that at EXPLO, unlike at school, he gets to explore that passion every day.

Let’s consider this backpack— If I were to design it myself, the shoulder straps would have a hidden pocket with easy access to credit cards and prox cards. I would also hide a secure front pocket that would allow me to lock away my most important valuables if I ever needed to (like my passport or my phone). I would also line the part of the backpack that runs against my back with some kind of memory foam.  It would take a lot of the stress off my back and exponentially add to the comfort.

One of my greatest fears is being Mr. Nobody. I want to leave my mark on this world. I want to be more than the guy who was born, lived, and then died. I want more in my story. Then again, I think I want to improve this world in an everyday kind of way. And industrial design is all about solving these same kinds of problems for other people.

EXPLO gives me the opportunity to go in depth about the things that I love — like industrial design. At home, I have a certain class twice, maybe three times per week. Here, I’m getting to do my passions every day. I think it’s really defined a different way that I think about the problems that I’m working on, and I hope that my ability to do so will continue to improve.
