Somi has always hoped to pursue a career in medicine, but before coming to EXPLO he was never able to get hands-on experience. His experiences in Surgical Interventions and Applied Physics has made him even more excited for his future studies.

I took biology in 7th grade and 9th grade, but I was not able to do any procedural or hands-on work. At the time, the Ebola crisis was ravaging West Africa, and that meant we were not allowed to deal with any blood or flesh.

I was really excited when I realized I would be able to do these things here at EXPLO. We are dissecting animals in my Surgical Interventions class and it is pretty amazing. I've known I have an interest in medicine, but getting to actually do procedures has solidified my interest in this field.

Apart from all this technical stuff, I am really happy with the friends I have made here at EXPLO. I can now say I have friends in Nigeria, friends over here at Yale, and friends in Maryland, where I attend boarding school right now. It has been such a pleasure to make so many friends and interact with different people. I value friendship, and being able to have friends all over is something I find incredible.
