Meet Rachel from Virginia

Rae Keyser

Rachel stays busy back home running her charity, but at Explo she takes time to explore different interests. She shares how her passion for science influenced her to start a chairty and what new topics she is seeking to learn this summer.

This is my second summer at Explo, but my first summer at Yale. It’s so exciting! I’m looking forward to having more freedom and more academically in-depth classes. I’ll be taking Ethics of Criminal Justice and Improv. I already really like performing arts, but I also like academics a lot. At Explo, I wanted to go out of my comfort zone, so I took ethics because I love debating and have very strong opinions. I figured that would be the class to share those opinions.

At Explo, I wanted to go out of my comfort zone.

I did not want to take a science course since that is all I do back home — I love it! — and I plan to go into marine rescue. Back at home, I have a charity called Fighting For Fins. It’s about shark conservation and ocean conservation matters. I go to aquariums and I interview people to post on our website to raise funds. It’s really cool. I started it in February. I just go, go, go! I’ll go to school and then straight to whatever artistic activity I have planned, like marching band, color-guard, or dance. But I love it, it relaxes me.
