Marc is 14 years old and as of this fall will have lived on three continents. He's still finding himself, but is hopeful that meeting people from around the world and learning their points of view will help shape his.

I was born in the U.S. but moved to Brazil when I was 3 years old. Having that connection with both of these places has really helped me to understand more people and their points of view. In my family, we talk a lot about privilege and how to see the world in other perspectives. There’s a big difference in lifestyles between Brazil and the U.S., and because I’ve traveled my whole life, I get to see these differences first-hand. That has helped me a lot in becoming a person that understands a little bit more about how the world works.

It’s difficult to grow up in the city I’m from. We say in Brazil that we live behind walls. I will be moving to England soon to finish school and to experience growing up somewhere me and my siblings can go outside without asking permission. It’s just another stop on the way to getting to know one more perspective in the world.

Home to me is the feeling of knowing the city and the people that live there. I had a lot of first impressions and assumptions when I first came to EXPLO that turned out not to be true. After getting to know everyone more, I was less shy and made some surprising friendships. This turning point really made EXPLO feel like a new home, and was also a reminder to always think about other points of view. I hope that coexisting with others and learning about other countries will help a lot in figuring out who I am and what I want to do.
