Malia is really enjoying her courses this summer, specifically the focus on psychology. She explains how even though she may not pursue psychology as a career, it might intertwine with her other plans.
I’m taking Politics + Activism and Ethics of Criminal Justice. I don’t remember how I became interested in psych, but I just remember being interested in it. Especially with how messed up the system is, I felt like, ‘Hey, that kind of stinks, it should be fixed!’
I’m taking AP Psych in high school this year and that's where I will find my favorite niche. I’m also taking the workshop, Psychology of Harry Potter, here, and it brought in a lot of ties to psychology I never really thought of before.
I’ll definitely stay in touch with my friends when I leave Explo, and also the stuff I’ve learned in my Politics + Activism class. We learned how to start a campaign so I will take that back and work on it when I have time. I want to make a zine — a small independent magazine you see at punk shows — that may be held together by staples. You do the art yourself and write it yourself. I want it to focus on intersectionality and politics, but it could evolve to whatever I am currently interested in. I would like to have album reviews in it too eventually, thrown in with some politics and poetry.
