Meet Lauren from New York — a curious, aspiring writer and actor who wants to explore social issues through theater and film.

Lauren is excited to dive head-first into an immersive set of classes that will allow her to explore the world of cinematography — an environment where she can embrace her love for both writing and acting.

I’ve always been passionate about writing and acting.  And it finally hit me this year when I was trying to figure out my summer plans, that I could really do both.

I’m a theater and movie enthusiast. I’ve never done much in the world of cinematography specifically before, but it’s a field that I’m really interested in and I’m excited to see how I like it.

I want to write a theater piece or movie script and have it on a stage. It would be incredible to get recognition and win a Tony or an Oscar, but it would be exciting to even have it in a small production just for a few nights.

I think performance is a great vessel for addressing big social issues. I remember watching the short films at the Oscars with my mom, and they were so powerful for only being 15 or 30 minutes. And I thought to myself that I could do that. I could make something like that in order to address a problem in the world.

I’ve thought about women’s rights. It’s something that applies to me, as a high school girl. I’ve been very lucky to grow up in an environment where I’ve had a lot of opportunity. But I know that a lot of women in the world don’t have it as easy.

I want to address the issue to spread awareness. Just the other day I heard about a woman who was kicked out of a swimming pool because her swimsuit was supposedly too revealing, even though she was wearing a one-piece. I feel outraged when I hear those kinds of stories. And if I can do something to help others gain insight, I will.
