Meet Jevonne from Jamaica

Curriculum advisor Jevonne has made a choice to be 'the fun guy' — a trait he says he inherited from his mentors that has helped him remain resilient and create more positive interactions for those around him.

For Jevonne, being the 'fun guy' is a chosen role that helps him remain resilient and to help others avoid pessimistic patterns. An undergraduate economics instructor, Jevonne has joined EXPLO as a curriculum advisor this summer. When asked what the best thing he had in his life was, he quickly replied: "my students."

One thing people should know about me is that I am a fun person both in my professional and personal life. I don't say that loosely — I really am! I believe fun is inextricably linked to optimism and how people interact with each other.

Growing up, I found that most of the people I admired or looked to as role models were always having fun. I chose very early on in my life to always remain fun as an individual, and I have found that it has helped me navigate various situations with a different insight.

Take, for example, office spaces. There are days when people are exhausted and not particularly excited to do their job, but once there is the presence of a fun person, the mood is lifted. Sometimes in life that's all you need: one fun person who is able to remind you why you are doing what you are doing, and to tear you away from perpetual pessimism.
