Jade, a rising senior, has been learning a lot about perseverance and vulnerability as an opportunity for growth. Her current challenge: painting class.
I’m meeting new people here and I’m finding others that have the same interests as me. I’m a lot more confident and I’m taking challenges. For example, I’m taking painting as one of my courses.
I really love the class. It’s a lot of energy and our instructor is incredibly talented and really helpful. But I’m not very artistic. And it’s difficult to keep pushing yourself to do something when you’re not happy with the outcome — it’s a lot easier to subconsciously assume that you don’t enjoy the subject matter.
I’ve been learning a lot about asking for help. I get an incredible sense of relief once I do. And in the end, it comes down to telling myself to keep going. I’ve been challenging myself to stop and take a step back in order to figure out what I can fix about my artwork if I’m not happy with it.
