I think what’s more significant than the people in charge are the people who make up the whole. For instance with the Paris Agreement, other people in the world may interpret the stance the U.S. took as a change in global leadership. Other than the actual climate impact, there are other impacts that are made. In our country, the things that get debated, like the Paris Agreement and health care and tax reform, they impact everyone in this country. I think it’s interesting that something senators talk about actually has an impact on my family and my friends and myself. I would like to be involved in that.

This year at EXPLO I will be taking political science as well as computer programming. With politics, I’m really pulled in by the fact this field affects everyone. It’s interesting to see what moves people will make for political reasons and learning about how the system works. I know I’m pretty young and don’t understand quite everything yet, and many people my age don’t like getting into this stuff. But, I just have the mind for politics I guess. I watch a lot of news shows and news podcasts, so from that I understand it more and more. Even talking to my dad, I ask questions about everything I don’t understand. I think my mind just understands it.

I want to major in political science when I’m in college in a few years, and ultimately I want to be in government, maybe Congress. I just want to be able to make a difference in people’s lives.
