Meet Connor from Massachusetts

Connor is exploring subjects that he’s always been curious about — including Interior Design, a spur of the moment decision that he's loving every moment of.

Back for a third summer at EXPLO, 15-year-old Connor is exploring disciplines and opportunities that he’s always been curious about — including Interior Design, a spur of the moment decision that he's loving every moment of.

This is my third year at EXPLO. What I love about the Yale program is that I’ve learned a lot about how to handle the freedom given to me. The friendships that I develop with my peers here feel more substantial because you learn how to develop them in the context of having much more independence with how you use your time.

Speaking about that freedom, it was a spur of the moment decision to take Interior Design. I’ve always liked decorating and designing, so I thought that I might as well take a course in it.

I like designing rooms and buildings — especially their interiors and the floor plans. Sometimes I’ll go into a restaurant and I’ll think about how I could move the tables to another corner and then move the kitchen to a different area. The restaurant design really would become so much more successful. I love brainstorming on how I could better set up a room to make it easier to get around and more effective in serving its purpose.
