A journalist in the making, Adena is driven by the diversity of the human experience.
I have African parents and they’ve always wanted me to have the best education possible. Instead of watching Disney, I watched CNN. Instead of pop music, I listened to NPR. I really got into news and staying in touch with what’s going on. It think it’s really important to stay informed and let people know what's happening with a non-biased opinion. In journalism you get a little bit of everything, too. You see all perspectives.
So, I was raised into journalism in a sense, but I have a natural love for it as well. Journalism is really important right now. We have news at our fingertips 24/7, so as important as it is to stay informed, the ability to navigate it is crucial as well.
I went to a boarding school last year and encountered people from places like Hong Kong, Bulgaria, Lebanon — just so many areas with so many different world views. I love surrounding myself with that environment. One of the best ways to get that exposure to different ways of thinking is through people directly, and I love that I can continue that experience during the summer here at EXPLO as well.
