Zach comes to Explo at Wellesley for his first summer to dive into the medical world. In Medical Careers and Forensic Science, he's beginning to realize his dream of becoming a pediatric orthopedic surgeon.
I've always wanted to be a doctor, and I've always wanted to work with kids. When I broke my leg earlier this year, it kind of pushed me into the orthopedic section. The surgeon I had who performed the surgery and helped me with recovery was a great doctor. I definitely looked up to him. I decided that I wanted to be that kind of doctor, that kind of person, in someone else's life. I also want to help children, because a lot of children have problems with their bones and bone injuries.
This past week has been really helpful in solidifying the idea of what I want to do when I grow up. I came in knowing I wanted to be a doctor, but now that I've actually done hands-on stuff in my classes, it really feels right. Doing sutures today in Medical Careers made me want to do it even more. I'm more excited to go to school to become a doctor, and to try everything else, too.
