This aspiring fashion designer shares why she came to Explo, how it's unique, and why it's the greatest experience of her life.
This is my first time at Explo. My sister came two years ago and she told me it was the best experience of her life. Ever since she came, I wanted to do it, too. Now it’s been the greatest experience of my life. I’ve gotten to do things that I would never have been able to do. I can meet new people and discover new talents that I didn’t know I had and make new things that I couldn’t make at home. Like, I couldn’t make purses or accessories. Explo just gave me something so different in my life. The most valuable thing I’ll take from Explo will be all the friends that I’ve made and all the staff that I’ve met.
The staff are so unique here. They don’t act like they are more powerful than you. You know you could talk to them. The teachers in school only focus on one thing: teaching. But the staff here teach and they make you smile and make you happy. You can talk to them whenever you need to.
Another unique thing about Explo is the courses. You get the opportunity to practice what you want to be when you grow up at an early age. I want to be a fashion designer. Just seeing all the patterns and designs that fashion designers create makes me want to do it myself. I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer before I came to Explo, and when I saw that there was the Fashion Design course that I’m taking now, I was so excited. I learned how to sew, which I have always wanted to do, and I learned it in a way that I could never forget.
