One of Sophie's favorite activities is to spend time at her local horse stable. She's learned patience and persistence from her favorite horse, Silver, who's a bit of a horse of a different color.

I started horseback riding about three years ago. I love everything about it. Right now I’m starting to learn how to jump! Horses are just gentle giants. I go to the stable all I can. When the horses are sick I like to be there with them. One of the older horses, her name is Dee, she just turned 30 and had a physical.  She had stopped eating. I got to watch that while I was there. It makes me think that I might want to become a Veterinarian.

I probably go to the stable to ride three times a week. Most Saturdays, when I can, I go to the barn early in the morning and help do chores. I clean stalls and take the horses out. I just enjoy doing it. I like spending that time around my favorite horses and just being there, honestly. My favorite horse’s name is Silver. He’s my favorite because he is especially nice. He is really gentle. They rescued him and he has a bunch of weird deformities. Even though he has those, he still manages to do his job just as well as the other horses. He’s always really patient. Even when all the other horses are being annoying or aggressive he is calm. He’s taught me how to be patient and calm, and to never give up. When you really get to know a horse you create a bond with them. They become more of a friend.
