Samantha, a rising eighth grader at Explo at Wellesley, is pursuing an interest in law while she seeks out the college-like independence Explo has to offer.

I love Explo! As long as I've been here, the community has been amazing, the courses have been extraordinary, and the people have been spectacularly nice. My favorite class here is Mock Trial. I'm interested in being a lawyer and taking the course is a lot of fun. Today we got our case. I'll be an attorney and will be direct examining a police officer, so I got to find out what goes into that.

I came to Explo because I wanted to experience a bit of what it will be like to be in college, with a dorm and responsibility and — above all — choices. I've definitely started to find myself thanks to all the choices I get to make without anyone telling me what I'm supposed to do. Some people might not want to have all that responsibility yet, but that's something you learn to overcome throughout your entire life, so it's good to know it now so that you won't be surprised when the time comes.

One of the key concepts we learned in Mock Trial is that being a good lawyer means taking control of the courtroom. Everything else at Explo has taught me the same thing applies outside of the courtroom, too.
