Young yogi Sam is 13 years old and, though this is his third year at EXPLO, he says that it feels like a different experience because he's always stepping outside of his comfort zone and learning something.

I just finished the Yoga Workshop. I really liked it because I love yoga and I liked the instructor. We went through a bunch of different yoga poses and also practiced meditation. The whole workshop just felt very relaxing, which is great because you have so many things to do here that it sometimes can feel a little overwhelming. I’ve done a little bit of yoga before, so it was nice to go in-depth and learn new things about it — that way, I can keep practicing after EXPLO ends.

I enjoyed learning new poses. My favorite is superman pose. You lie on your stomach and then you lift your hands and your legs off in a straight line and you try to get as much body off the floor as possible. It’s a fun pose and it has a great name. Yoga helps me relax, and I use some of the poses when I’m trying to fall asleep. It’s so calming. We got to create some of our own series of poses and present it to the group, and everyone could follow along.

I’ve been to EXPLO twice before, but this time it’s different because I’m sharing a room with someone I didn’t know. Previously, I’ve been in the same room with a friend. This situation is something completely new to me, so I’ve definitely gotten out of my comfort zone. But it’s very interesting to be in these situations because you really need to push yourself, and it’s rewarding to see yourself learning from that experience. I guess that’s something what we do here at EXPLO all the time.
