Meet Rosi from Spain

Budding engineer Rosi, 14, has already built her first computer. Now her sights are set on improving travel and transportation with a car company that prioritizes the person over the machine.

I’m interested in engineering. I find the capability of making something that moves —of making something that has motion — like a robot or a car very interesting. I’ve put together a robot myself. Actually, it was a computer. My parents ordered the parts and I built it. It was pretty hard, but I made it. The hardest part was running it and seeing if I actually did everything right. It’s very hard to figure out what exactly you did wrong if something is not working properly.

I want to pursue a career in engineering. I want to make my own car company, but based more on the human being than the machine; to adapt it more to the needs of humans and make it more comfortable. This means that comfort and safety come before everything else. I am a very active person and I love to travel, but I hate being on the bus for more than two hours because my legs start to cramp. So I really want to invest myself in improving the quality of transportation and travel.

I’ve been to United States several times before. The biggest difference between the U.S. and Spain is the food and measurements, obviously. I was so confused when they said that it’s going to be 100 degrees outside, because I was thinking in Celsius. But besides that, there’s more diversity when it comes to different cultures and religions in the United States compared to Spain; that really has opened my eyes. I’ve made friends from all around the world that I’m still in touch with, like India, Lebanon, Germany, Austria, the United States, and Venezuela. What I’ve learned is that it's important to be nice to everyone because you never know who is going to be your next best friend. I’m very excited to meet new people. I also enjoy trying different courses here; I try to change my courses every year to experience new things. This year I’m taking Model UN and Residential Architecture and they’re both so great!
