Looking to remodel or renovate? Give Rachel a buzz for her expertise on all questions and pointers related to interior design! At Explo at Wellesley, Rachel enjoys meeting friends from all over the world while learning about different design styles in each corner of the globe.

I get inspired by interior decorating shows, like Love it or List it and House Hunters International. I love thinking of all the different possibilities and choices that a designer can make and seeing how your imagination turns into reality. If I could design a house anywhere in the world, I'd probably choose right here in New England because there's so much history here. The history of a neighborhood can really have a huge impact on the homes' designs. Like, if it's an older town in this region, the houses have more detail in the wood carvings and smaller intricate pieces all throughout the house that you might not notice until you take a close look.

I decided to take interior decorating because I've always had an interest in it, but I've never had an opportunity to do anything with it, so I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to test it out and see if I like it. In class, we design rooms for different clients each day with very eccentric or particular style requests. It's challenging but really fun to make the client happy. Today in class, we began they planning phase, so each of us chose a room and we cut out magazines and created collages and posters of what that room would look like.

I really appreciate that at Explo, we get to do interactive activities where we really enjoy what we're learning. You don't just sit in a classroom and listen to lectures about concepts — you actually get to have a hands-on approach and do them. But for me, the coolest thing I've learned here so far has actually been outside the classroom. I've learned to be more social meeting people from different countries and I've really learned how to interact and find things in common with different people all over the world.
