As a first time Explo at Wellesley student, Qye is already passionate about his courses: Mock Trial and Business of Sports. This intellectual student has been looking forward to his summer here for quite some time!

I’ve always been interested in law because my mom is a lawyer. I spend a lot of time with my mom talking about law, and I ask her a lot of questions about what she’s doing. I love the persuasive part of it. I want to be a defense attorney like her, and you have to be kind of slick. You also have to be very intellectual to know all your points and everything you’re going to say. But you also have to be able to change what you were planning to say really fast.

The Mock Trial course is going to help me later in life because it gives you those basic skills. If I do become a defense attorney and I have to cross examine a witness, I’ll be prepared to interrogate them, refute the prosecution, and come up with rebuttals.

As a defense attorney, if I could prevent an innocent person from going to jail or getting punished for something they didn’t do, that would make me feel really good. I could make a difference like that. My mom works with civil cases and she supports me in wanting to do what she does. She helps me a lot with it and loves the idea of it. She keeps me informed on important cases going on around the world and helps me understand them.

The Mock Trial course is going to help me later in life because it gives you those basic skills. I do debate club at my high school, too. If I do become a defense attorney and I have to cross examine a witness, I’ll be prepared to interrogate them, refute the prosecution, and come up with rebuttals.

My mom was the one researching summer programs for me. I like the other ones that I’ve been to, but she came across Explo on the Internet and we researched it. I read all about it. I applied and was accepted and I’ve been excited for it ever since. I really think it’s going to help me achieve my dream of becoming a defense attorney like my mom.
