Mitchell is excited to run the stage lights for Community Meeting tonight, a skill he picked up only last week. He likes the welcoming attitude of Explo faculty and students but appreciates even more the approachable feeling of each new challenge.

Tonight will be my first time running stage lights for a show! Technically, I'm not doing it completely by myself — I'll have someone helping and guiding me in what to do sometimes — but I get to push all the buttons and sliders. And when it comes to the band performance, I get to do all the colors. I've never done anything like it before. I mean, I've been on a stage before when I sang on my school chorus, but that doesn't really count. I went on a backstage tour as one of my activities last week and it looked cool. After hearing about it more and how the light board worked, I got really into it and asked if I could try it. And bam, here I am.

I probably wouldn't have wound up trying it at my middle school. Same with a few other things at Explo, like Wall Ball — I'm not that into it back home but I tried it for the first time at Explo and now I'm into it. I haven't learned all the moves, but I still have a week left! New things can be scary, but nobody here seems to mind.
