Micah is a budding comedian and songwriter, and he's currently writing his own musical with his dad (that's no joke!).
I’m taking the Sketch Comedy course. Sketch Comedy is very fun. We’re learning about the different components of a sketch and what makes things funny. So the two parts to a joke are the setup, the so-called normal thing, and then the unusual thing. So when you get to the middlepoint of the sketch and wait for that first unusual thing, but then something unexpected happens — that’s what makes things funny. Or at least it makes things interesting for the audience. At the moment, we are writing a sketch parodying the EXPLO update. It’s about a lanyard thief and it’s going to be really funny.
Right now me and my dad are writing a musical based on a book named “The Western Game.” It’s kind of like a murder mystery. There’s this older person, Sam, who dies and the heirs all come together and he sets up this puzzle for them to solve. I won’t tell you the end, because it’s a very good book. There are a lot of secrets that will be revealed. So we are writing a musical about that. It’s pretty good so far, I feel like this is going to be a really big project. I’ve written individual songs before, but not musicals. We do a lot of different academic things together. My dad has a minor in music. The musical might perform at a theater, but we don’t know yet if we can finish it. We are kind of testing it out at the moment, seeing if we could do something like that together.
I feel that if I make a few friends here that will stay with me through the rest of my life that would be really cool. This might be one of the best places to do that.
